Even though we often try to tame our emotions, the reality is that our feelings determine how we live our lives, regardless of our level of emotional maturity.

Most of our negative behavior, for instance, is tied to our fears and insecurities. It’s not nastiness that leads to negative behavior but our fears.

And the truth is that the quality of your life is widely determined by the quality of your relationships. And the quality of these relationships, in return, is determined by your emotional stability.

A common sign of emotionally immature people is that they let their feelings be the driver of their behavior. They act on emotions.

If someone gets angry, frustrated, or excited too quickly, they might be emotionally weak and not able to properly handle their feelings.

Emotionally mature people, however, have a superpower that can save lots of pain and sometimes even a relationship: They can wait to bring important issues up.

We all know that we can’t have meaningful conversations when we’re tired, hungry, exhausted, overworked, or drunk. Yet, that’s exactly what we try to do when we face an emotionally challenging situation.

Instead of waiting, we dive straight into an argument which often results in meaningless debates with our loved ones.
