What the Russian invasion of Ukraine looks like from the outside

Ukrainians live in the largest European country by area. And they live well. In the morning, they jump on public transport to get to work. They pay for the fare by phone, and the bus/tram/metro arrives right on schedule.

For lunch, they get a Hawaiian bowl from a cute local cafe and a cappuccino with home-made almond milk. In the evening, they attend a yoga class, buy a new shirt from Zara and then see friends and drink French wine. For dinner, there will probably have a quick-made pasta pesto.

In the morning, they will have a doctor appointment for which they signed up online through the app a few days ago. While on the way, they will have time to pay utility bills and retour their parcel from a micro Instagram shop to another pick-up point — all from the phone.

The next day, they will go on a business trip to Barcelona or London by a direct flight, and to Madeira on vacation. There is also a direct flight from Kyiv. On the weekend, they will ride quad bikes and wakeboard outside the city, and in the evening — go to a show of a local DJ from Berlin in one of the clubs. They will get home by Uber and buy water and eggs for breakfast in a 24/7 convenience store near the house.

And then they came. The real barbarians. Horde. They came and said, now we want to live here. You’ve had a good life and that’s enough. We have come to take everything away from you, and to kill you.

This is what the Russian invasion of Ukraine looks like from the outside. The Russians came to a place where no one had ever expected them. They just crossed the border and began to crush everything with extreme cruelty. They destroyed the happy life of a beautiful European country.
