Now is the time to Legalise Cannabis in the UK

Whatever the long-term medical repercussions of COVID-19 — it may run through the population eternally, or there may be a working vaccine within months — the financial effects are certain to be grave. There is likely to be a sudden rise in unemployment the measure of which we haven’t seen for a century. There is undoubtedly going to be the imminent collapse of multiple corporations. If it comes in concert with a no-deal Brexit, as currently seems likely, disaster looms — that’s becoming increasingly obvious. So I’m making a suggestion — why don’t we add into the economy a whole area that currently sits completely under the radar.

Cannabis is providing relief to millions in the UK with conditions already. Legalising will simply officially confirm what everyone already knows — cannabis supplements the relaxation of many individuals around the nation in a way that is superior to the most commonly relied upon relaxant — alcohol. It is less physically and socially harmful, and would provide a more pleasant escape route for lockdown mental health than people drinking themselves into a stupor.
