Product design process in Design Sprint

Design Sprint is a 5-day and limited process designed by Google to find the right answers to key business questions. All organizational teams can use this process.

The most important phases of Design Sprint are:

1. Understanding the problem
In order to understand the problem, it is necessary for all team members, including the product designer, business manager, product manager and product owner, to get familiar with the main goals of the project. It is possible to do this through activities such as conversation, observing and understanding the user, analyzing requirements, defining personas and use-cases. Finally, things like persona, user story, user journey map and user flow will be the main outputs of this stage.

2. User research
User research is one of the most important stages of design sprint. This stage is possible by the design team through studying and comparing competitors’ approaches, examining similar features, analyzing UI/UX trends, studying and researching user experience principles and rules, as well as using UX and Design System guidelines. The successful completion of these activities leads to the presentation of a set of applicable and close to reality ideas, access to documents related to the calculations made with users, and the creation of personas.

3. Sketch
Naturally, when it comes to the design sprint process, the presentation of the initial plan becomes very important. This means that the design team, product manager, product owner and technical team experts all gather together; Their goal is to engage in activities such as generating ideas, conducting brainstorming sessions from a technical point of view, and drawing plans and sharing them with stakeholders. In this way, they intend to achieve basic design (Sketches), wireframe design, prototyping, mock-up and user flow design.

4. product design
At this stage, the members of the design team, the product manager, the product owner, the technical team experts and the business manager put their thoughts together. These people try to design the user interface (UI); finalize guidelines and plans; And also, by holding numerous meetings to receive the feedbacks and commercial and technical views of the stakeholders. All these efforts are done in order to provide user interface design (LO-Fi) and (Hi-Fi), create prototypes close to reality, design UI elements and components, and improve system design.

5. Implementation
After going through all the mentioned steps, it is time to implement the plan. This work is possible with the cooperation of the development team and the design team and through the development of the design team in the back-end and front-end areas. Carrying out this process finally makes it possible to access a developed product with functions.

6. Assessment
The evaluation stage is done with the participation of the design team, the product manager and the product owner. These people try to solve the problems of this field by comparing the features of the implemented product with the final design and checking the user experience flows. Receiving user feedback, providing comprehensive reports on UI evaluation, improving required parts and providing A/B tests are among the most important outputs of this stage.
