Bottling Solar Power

Solar power generation remains the greatest opportunity being driven by climate change. If we accept that the modern human world cannot do without power, then we have to find a way to create it that no longer burns stuff to do it. Solar power generation is it. Nothing else comes even close.

The challenge with solar power, however, has always been this: What do you do if the sun isn’t shining? And, the corollary question: How can I use all this excess energy being created when the sun is out?

To date, the biggest answer has been better batteries, and fantastic advances in battery storage of solar power have been made and are being made. I have highlighted some of them in this blog and on my Facebook page @PostCapFuture.

Researchers are continuing to develop these new technologies to deliver on the needs of modern life and improve that life while solving for climate change. While there may be some truth to the idea that we need to accept a less wasteful means of living life, the imposition of such stringent lifestyle on others will not form the basis of a widely accepted societal shift to halt climate change. Nor will it be part of generating a new digital abundance. Solar thermal energy fuels, however, can bridge another important gap. Endless energy without burning stuff is the only real answer. This technology will help.
